Biography:

He was born in Istanbul. He started his Music education in 1991 in the Instrument Department of ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory. He participated in TRT Istanbul Radio as a ney performer. He performed the field research in Damascus, Aleppo (Syria), within the scope of doctoral thesis called “Ney, Its Geographic spread and the Scope of Interaction Between Culture and Civilization; A Comparative Analysis in Relation To History, Technical and Perform.” He expanded his work with the information with regard to the ney methods, tunes and sound systems by communicating with neyzens from Iran and Egypt.

He participated in workshop / radio program / concert with his Ney in 2007 (Istanbul) and 2008 (London) in the context of BBC's Turkish Music Session.

He continues to take place in performance, studio and recording works in international and national representations. He has a book titled Exploring Ney Techniques (2014). History, poetry and music cultures of the regions of Andalusia-North Africa fall into the fields of his interest. Tufekci, who is married and is the father of a son named Alimansur, is an Associate Professor and Ney Lecturer at the ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory.
