Biography:

Serhat Turunç was born in 1975. He enrolled on ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory Instrument Department in 1986 as a tar student. After finishing secondary and high education in there, he graduated from the conservatory in 1996. He obtained his master’s degree in 1999 and competence in arts (PhD) degree in 2011 at ITU Institute of Social Sciences. His PhD thesis named Problems Faced in Tar Training in Turkey and Ways of Solutions is the first study in doctoral level associated with the tar in Turkey. He worked as a tar artist in The Turkish Radio-Television Corporation (TRT) from 1996 to 2004. As a member of the group Kent Ozanlari he recorded two albums, Gullerin Icinde (GAK Production) in 1998 and Gonulden (Hakalmaz Music) in 2006. Turunç was a research assistant between 2003-2014 and he has been serving as an assistant professor since 2014 at ITU Turkish Music State Conservatory.
